Darwin September October School holidays 2022 break is fast approaching! School holidays will start on Monday 26th September (for Darwin public schools) to Sunday 9th October (Private and Independent school holidays may be slightly different – please check with your school). Students will return to school for Term 4 on Monday 10th of October.

Top End Multi Sports – Monday 3rd to Friday 7th October
TEMS have their popular sports holiday program back for the October holidays break. For the best holiday fun, book your kids into their holiday program where they have a variety of sports and activities to keep your kids entertained! Whether your kid is a beginner or expert player, their school holiday program provides for all levels of ability. They can expect lots of fun, learn a skill and much more.
Program consists of: Soccer, tennis, volleyball, swimming, movie time and more. Daily activities have flexibility to suit children. For ages 5+ $75 per day or $300 for 5 days (the last day is FREE!) 8am to 4pm (half days and earlier starts available on request)

Castaways of Cas! Sat 24th Sept – 8th Oct
Castaways of Cas will be sailing into Casuarina Square these school holidays. Visit the Yenz Entertainment’s Ship Wreck cove and try different FREE Craft Activities from 24 September to 8th October each day from 11am to 1pm. Location: Resort node, behind The Coffee Club
Quarter Island
Sail your ships to Quarter Island and visit the jumping castle every Friday (4pm – 7pm) and Saturday (12pm – 3pm).
In partnership with Darwin Social Chess Club, Casuarina Square will be hosting a one-day chess event in The Quarter on Saturday 1 October, 11am – 2pm.
Gaming After Dark – Friday 23rd Sept
Hang out and play casual setups, compete in small Esports competitions, socialise and be around friendly like-minded people! FREE event, For ages 12-17 at Casuarina Library, 6:30pm to 8:30pm.
A time long, long ago… long before mobile phones and coloured TV (according to our young people. The time was the 1980’s), there was a corrugated iron shed that housed what would become Darwin’s longest running youth arts organisation. Having since moved homes, to celebrate Brown’s Mart’s anniversary CIYA are going back to our roots. Join the emerging performers in a program of events; from theatre, to circus, to an intimate immersive experience – all based around our first home, ‘The Shed.’ More info here
Geek Up – Sunday 25th Sept
Geek Up is a FREE spin-off program from the Libraries’ highly successful Geektacular for young people aged 15-25 who want to MEET, CONNECT and PLAY. Geek Up takes place at the Casuarina Library on the last Sunday of each month from 1pm-4pm. Snacks provided.
Make a Short Film on your phone – Sat 24th and Sun 25th Sept
Corrugated Iron & DIFF Darwin International Film Festival are excited to host this workshop for young creatives aged 13+ who want to learn new skills, film, act, direct or edit a short film with their peers. By the end of the two days participants will have produced their own short film to share with family, friends and on Corrugated Iron’s social platforms if they wish.
Participants will need to supply their own mobile phone and have downloaded https://www.vlognow.me/ prior to the workshop. It is expected that participants attend both days. AFL NT – Holiday program – Thurs 29th Sept
Everyone is welcome to come along for an action-packed day of footy fun. For ages 5-12yrs will run on Thursday 29th September, from 9am-3pm at TIO Stadium, Marrara. Swim Dynamics – Build up Swimming intensives – Mon 26th Sept to Fri 7th Oct
Classes are held on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays in a week period at Nightcliff Pool (259 Casuarina Dr). The Holiday Intensive Program will be held over the two (2) weeks of school holidays in Sep/Oct. Students will have a 30 minute class scheduled between 8:30am and 12:00pm on each day. Group classes will be between 8:30 and 10am with privates offered from 10am onwards.

Leanyer Recreation Park

Another great option to keep the kids busy and cool these Darwin September October School holidays 2022 is to visit Leanyer Recreation park. It is a FREE water recreation park located at 215 Vanderlin Drive Leanyer. The Park consists of dry and wet recreational areas. The wet area includes a swimming lagoon (shallow in many areas – great for toddlers and young children), three massive water slides for the older kids. PLEASE NOTE THE WET PLAYGROUND IS STILL CURRENTLY UNDER CONTRUCTION UPGRADES. There are large grassed areas for play, BBQ’s, a dry playground, skate park and basketball courts. The Park has lots of shaded areas including over the pool, the wet play area, the skate park and the grassed areas. There are toilets and change room facilities.
Opening hours during the school holidays are:
9am to 8pm – grassed area and BBQ’s
10am to 6pm – wet play area

An introduction to the key processes of film and television production. Explore screenplays and formatting and gain insight into the process of pre-production. Learn crew roles and on set protocols and experiment with implementing visual storytelling as you shoot your own scenes. Discover the creative possibilities as you learn how to edit your footage. Free sessions for 15-18yr olds. Held at Pandanus Room Nightcliff Community Centre – 10am – 2pm (4 sessions, 16 hours total). Book your free spot here
Community Fun Day – Thursday 6th October

Playshack Palmerston
Why not head into the Playshack located in the Hub complex Palmerston (Shop 7, 3 Maluka Drive). Let the kids run and burn their energy and you can enjoy a coffee or drink and a snacks available for purchase. The Playshack have extended during school holidays. Their hours will be 8.30 am till 4 pm Monday – Friday, plus the usual weekend times of Saturday 9 am till 2pm and Sunday 10 am till 4 pm. Entry is only $9.90 per child during the week and bubs under 1 are free. Please remember your socks!
Darwin Ice Skating Centre – special offers!
Our friends at Darwin Ice Skating Centre have some great special offers always on for families! You can skate 1 Parent & 1 Child (5yrs and under) for just $24. Or a family pass of 2 Adults & 2 Children (between 6 Years & 14 Years) is $60.00.
If you buy a pre-paid pass for 10 sessions and receive a 20% discount off the total price. They also have loyalty cards where after 10 skating sessions, you’ll be able to skate for free on the 11th visit.

Museum and Art Gallery Northern Territory (MAGNT)
The Museum and Art Gallery NT (located at 19 Conacher St) is another great place to take the kids and keep them entertained for a few hours in air conditioning! My kids love visiting the turtles next to the main entrance and there is always interesting new exhibitions and the same old favourites. Entry to the MAGNT is free and they are open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4pm and Sundays open 10am till 5pm. Closed Good Friday.
At the moment there is new exhibition called Walking through a Songline.

Magic is coming – Friday 23rd Sept, 30th Sept and 7th Oct
Magic is Coming is the event of CDU Magic Club, aiming to promote the art of magic and integrate people from different cultural backgrounds! The event from CDU Magic Club will be held at 3.45 pm every Friday! Magic is an art that combines skills and performance, which brings miracles to thousands of audiences. CDU Magic Club aims to promote this art to more audiences!
Regular events will be held each semester, including magic teaching activities, which will encourage and attract groups that are interested in magic to learn more about this art. 3.45pm – 4.45 pm every Friday. Venue: Blue 2A, Charles Darwin University Casuarina Campus, Darwin. Food and drinks will be provided.
Northern Suburbs 3×3 Basketball
All things streetball hitting the courts in the suburbs. 3×3 basketball, games, activities and prizes. Great sounds, great feed, great fun. Food will be provided. Larrakia Drop offs will be available after 5pm. For kids aged 10-17, from 5pm to 9pm at Chrisp Street Rapid Creek Basketball Courts. Held on TBC.
