Are you ready for our Darwin Easter and April School holidays 2026?  (for Darwin public schools, private and independent school holidays may be slightly different – please check with your school). Easter is Good Friday 3rd April to Easter Monday 6th April and School holidays are Tuesday 7th to Sunday 12th April. Students will return to school for Term 2 2026 on Tuesday 14th April (public schools).

Easter activities and events

Easter Egg hunt at Botanic Gardens – Sunday 29th March

A special early Easter Egg Hunt at the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens on Sunday 29 March, in partnership with Ms Laurie Zio, Member for Fannie Bay. Head to the Gardens playground for a fun-filled morning designed especially for younger children. Two sessions: 9:00am – Pre-school children, 10:00am – Primary school children
This is a free community event, however places are limited, so bookings are essential via Humanitix. Book free spot here Bring a hat, water bottle and a basket and get ready for some egg-citing fun in one of Darwin’s favourite green spaces!
City of Darwin Libraries – Easter story times
Hop on over for an egg-stra special surprise! The Easter Bunny is making a special stop at Story Time. Join in for a fun-filled morning of laughter, excitement and Easter cheer. All welcome! No bookings required.

Darwin Waterfront – Easter Celebrations – Saturday 4th April

Head down to the Waterfront from 9am to 1pm on Saturday to join the annual Easter Egg Hunt, and don’t miss out on all the FREE fun activities. Wear your Easter Bonnet or a full Easter Costume for a chance to win a prize! Find out all about the Easter Egg Hunt on their website here, and make sure you start the Egg Hunt early to make sure you don’t miss out on the chocolate! Easter Craft session – Saturday 4th April
Join in the Easter Craft – Basket Making, Easter wind chimes held at Palmerston Youth Centre (41 McCourt Rd, Yarrawonga) on Saturday 4th from 3pm to 6pm. Meal and snacks provided.  For ages 10-17 years. No registration required.

Easter story time – Saturday 4th April

Hop on over to Litchfield Community Library for some Easter Storytime fun on Saturday 4th April from 10:30am! They’ll be reading a delightful Easter story and filling the morning with: music, dancing, singing and a special Easter-themed story. It’s the perfect chance for your little ones to celebrate Easter and for families to connect with one another, make new friends and enjoy a fun morning together.

Easter Sunday family fun – Sunday 5th April

Head down to the Beachfront Hotel for a fun-filled Easter celebration these school holidays. Free kids activities including kids face painting from 11:00am, petting zoo from 12pm to 2pm. It’s the perfect Easter day out happy kids, relaxed parents, ocean views, and plenty of photo moments.

Kids Eggcellent Easter Disco – Sunday 5th April
Head to Casuarina All Sports Club for a fun filled Easter Sunday celebration the kids will absolutely love! Bring the family along for music, dancing and plenty of Easter fun from 11am to 1pm. What’s happening: Kids Disco, Fairy Jill, Easter Bunny appearance, Face Painting, Chocolates & Easter surprises, Kids Eat Free: 12–2pm & 6–9pm (One kids meal with every regular meal purchase). Easter Egg hunt – Sunday 5th April
Hop along to Darwin Golf Club (5 Links Road Marrara) and join them for a fun morning celebrating Easter with the Whole Family! EASTER EGG HUNT @ 10:30am, surprise visit from the Easter Bunny, entertainment with Hyper the clown, Face painting by Mirror Mirror, Petting Zoo by Animal Encounters NT. FREE Family Event. Kitchen open from 11am. BONUS: 1/2 Priced Kids Meals. Bring the family along for a great morning of fun, smiles, and Easter Surprises.

Looking for exciting ways to keep the kids active and entertained these school holidays? Fun in the Parks is a free outdoor program filled with games, laughter and community spirit, perfect for children and families! Join in every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the school holidays (excluding public holidays) for a morning of fun in our beautiful local parks. Everyone is welcome. Zone 3 – Unlimited Laser tag and free arcades
Book in a session with our friends at Zone 3! From 3rd of April and the school holidays you can book an hour pass for just $15 per person or family of four pass for $50! My kids love heading here during the school holidays (or for birthday parties!). To book head here
TRI-games – Sunday 5th April
FREE Basketball, Handball and Pool Competitions happening at Palmerston Youth Centre (41 McCourt Rd, Yarrawonga) on Sunday afternoon 3pm to 6pm, food provided. For ages 10-17yrs.
Disco – Monday 6th April
Join in the Disco fun at Palmerston Youth Centre on Monday 6th April from 6pm to 9pm. For ages 10-17yrs. Food provided, free and no registrations required.

Tennis Palmerston Youth Activity Program – Monday 6th to Thursday 9th April

Tennis Palmerson (16 Bonson Tce Moulden) are hosting FREE daily Tennis Sessions for kids aged 10-17yrs from 4pm to 6pm. Fun, game-based tennis lessons with all equipment provided. Just bring a hat, water bottle, and enclosed shoes. No registrations required.

PaRBA – Youth Drop in Sports – various dates

PaRBA are hosting a safe space for youth: social sport, wellbeing, resilience, inclusion, community connection at the Palmerston Recreation Centre on Tuesday 7th, Wednesday 8th, Thursday 9th, Friday 10th and Monday 13th April. Youth First Aid – Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th April

Surf Lifesaving NT are hosting FREE sessions in First Aid for 13-25yr olds. Gain Accredited First Aid & CPR qualifications. Attendance at both days required to complete qualification, online learning before training. Sessions being held 9am – 2pm on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th at 16 De Latour St, Coconut Grove. Late Skates – Wednesday 8th April
Build Up Skateboarding are hosting a FREE skateboarding session at Palmerston Skate Park from 4pm to 6pm on Wednesday 8th April. All skill levels welcome. Boards and safety gear provided, or bring your own! Meal provided. For ages 10-17yrs, no registration required.

Come and try FREE sessions in both Marrara and Palmerston on Tuesday for boys and girls aged 5-12yrs. Register here

Deckchair Cinema – Thursday 9th April
City of Darwin’s LAUNCH program has teamed up with the crew at the stunning Deckchair Cinema for another epic school holiday movie. After being kicked out of his band Dewey Finn (Jack Black) scams his way into a job as a substitute teacher at a strict private school. This feel-good comedy follows the wanna-be rock-god and his proteges as they form a band and set their sights on the local Battle of the Bands. Gates open 5:45pm, movie starts 7pm. FREE for ages 12-25!

Feel Good Factory: FREE Come & Try Circus – Thursday 9th April

Ever wanted to test drive a circus workshop at Corrugated Iron? Now is your chance! In this action-packed workshop, you’ll get hands-on with a wide variety of circus skills, including juggling, acrobatics, balancing and even more. Led by Corrugated Iron’s Head Circus Trainer, Nikki Jeffries, this FREE workshop is open to all skill levels, even if it’s your very first-time giving circus a go! Suitable for  ages 7-17 years. Surf and Sail – Thursday 9th April

Surf Lifesaving NT and Darwin Sailing Club are hosting a FREE Come and Try – Surf lifesaving nippers and junior sailing for kids ages 6 to 16. Happening on Thursday 9th April at Lake Alexander – 1pm to 3pm. No registrations required.

K-Pop Demon Hunters Dance Workshop – Thursday 9th April

Join in this FREE K-Pop Demon Hunters workshop on Thursday from 2:30pm to 3:30pm at Casuarina Library. Aimed at kids 7-14yrs. Register Online Via City of Darwin Libraries.

Kids cooking + Art classes – various dates
From Pizza, bread to meatball day, Darwin Adult Short courses have a range of classes and workshops these April School holidays for kids – book cooking classes here. On Saturday the 4th of April there is an Easter treats cooking class, for ages 8+ that is running 10am to 12pm – book here. The Montessori Watercolour art classes for ages 4-9yrs on Tuesday and Thursday in the school holidays (more info below – head here to book). Limited spots in all classes and sports vouchers can be used for payment.

City of Palmerston – April 7th to April 10th  
Looking for some free fun activities to do for the school holidays? City of Palmerston have you covered. They offer a range of activities, entertainment, movies and more at the library every school holiday. These April school holidays include Diamond Art, ceramic mug painting, Friday movie and paint by numbers. All sessions are free, start at 10am and aimed at children aged 5-12yrs.

Coolalinga Central Shopping Centre – Thursday 9th and Friday 10th April
Two school holiday fun activities – meet the farm animals or make your own slime. On Thursday from 9:30am to 12:30pm you can meet the variety of furry and feathered animals! This is a FREE event, no bookings required! Just wander in and say hello. Slime workshops are half an hour session from 10am onwards. Bookings essential and tickets are $5.50 which you will get a $5 foodie voucher to spend afterwards. Book here

NT Youth Week

Northern Territory Youth Week is the single largest celebration of young Territorians aged 12 to 25 years! The event provides a platform for young Territorians to connect, express their ideas, address issues that matter to them, and engage with the wider community through a diverse variety of programs and events. NT Youth Week also seeks to promote a positive view of young people, celebrating their talents, achievements, and their positive impact in the community.

Splash Sunday – Sunday April 12th
Head down to Darwin Waterfront on Sunday April 12th for free water slides on the lawns from 10am to 1pm.

Leanyer Recreation Park

Another great option to keep the kids busy and cool these Darwin December and January School holidays is to visit Leanyer Recreation park. It is a FREE water recreation park located at 215 Vanderlin Drive Leanyer. The Park consists of dry and wet recreational areas. The wet area includes a swimming lagoon (shallow in many areas – great for toddlers and young children), three massive water slides for the older kids.  There are large, grassed areas for play, BBQ’s, a dry playground, skate park and basketball courts. The Park has lots of shaded areas including over the pool, the wet play area, the skate park and the grassed areas. There are toilets and change room facilities. 
Opening hours during the school holidays are:
Park from 9am
Wet Play & Lagoon from 10am
Slides from 11am
Park closes at 6pm
Palmerston Water Park

Palmerston Water Park is the second water park in Darwin. It also FREE and open seven days a week. Located at Cnr University Ave and Roystonea Ave (access via Roystonea Ave). The water park includes a 14 metre high – 100 metre long – six-line racer water slide, a wet play area for families and toddlers featuring sprays, water curtains and a shallow wading pool. Another wet play area for teenagers featuring more active water cannons, buckets and high intensity interactive play, a café, toilets and change room facilities, open grassed play area with BBQs, shaded areas and a skate park. ** NOTE the slides have been closed for Maintenance in March – check their Facebook page for updates**

Opening hours during the school holidays are:
Park from 9am
Wet Play from 10am
Slides from 11am
Park closes at 6pm
