Are you ready for our Darwin April School holidays 2025 ? We have a short one week break for public schools. Students will return to school for Term 2 2025 on Tuesday 15th April (public schools check with your private/Indepent schools for their return date). Easter will be from Good Friday on 18th April to Easter Monday on 21st April and students back to school on Tuesday 22nd April.

Darwin Family Life has rounded up some of the fantastic options that are free (or affordable) activities to do with your kids these April School holidays and Easter break.

TEMS

Top End Multi Sports – April School holidays program

TEMS have their popular sports holiday program back for April holidays break. For the best holiday fun, book your kids into their holiday program where they have a variety of sports and activities to keep your kids entertained! Whether your kid is a beginner or expert player, their school holiday program provides for all levels of ability. They can expect lots of fun, learn a skill and much more.

Program consists of: Soccer, tennis, volleyball, swimming, movie time and more. Daily activities have flexibility to suit children. For ages 5+ 8am to 4pm (half days and earlier starts available on request)

Monday 7th to Friday 11th April

Cost is $300 for full 5 days/week or $75 per day

Celebrate | MAGNIFY: art // beats // food – Saturday 5th April – 3pm – 8pm

Kick off your holidays with MAGNIFY, a museum-takeover that celebrates the energy and creativity of Darwin’s young people. Browse the maker’s market, immerse yourself in art workshops and fun activities then soak up cool sounds and savour hot bites as the sun goes down on Larrakia Country. Children’s Tour | From Jaws to Claws – Tuesday 8 April – 11am to 12pm

The Natural Science gallery, ‘Transformations: the changing nature of the territory’, is a special place in the Museum where you can discover multiple crocodiles, touch real fossils and learn about marine stingers and the mini monsters that live in the Northern Territory. Join MAGNT Curator Emeritus of Molluscs, Dr Richard Willan, for an exciting tour through this gallery.

Children’s Field Trip | Buffalo Creek – Wednesday 9 April – 8am to 12pm

Embark on a field trip with the MAGNT Education Team and learn how to identify different types of rocks, sediments and shells.  Put your knowledge into practice as we traverse different paths and the beach, from Buffalo Creek to Lee Point and back again.

The field bus will depart MAGNT at 8am and return by 11am where the experience will continue in the Discovery Centre.

Youth program | MAGNT After Dark – Insects of the Tropics – Thursday 10 April         5pm to 9pm

Join the MAGNT Education team and explore the museum after dark. View invertebrates in the Tiny Territory exhibition, experiment with macro photography and learn other creative ways to look at insects in the Discovery Centre. Discuss creepy-crawlies with likeminded entomologists over dinner then watch a documentary in the Theatrette.

Sunday Funday | STEAM Building Skills – Sunday 13th April

Step inside the Discovery Centre and develop new skills through a series of fun activities that give children a chance to explore science, technology, engineering and maths.

Co-designed by MAGNT STEAM Lead Educator, Caitlin Conway, and Education Students from Charles Darwin University, this hands-on workshop is perfect for children with curious and creative minds who want to discover new things and build STEAM skills.

Augmented Reality Pop Up Park Launch – Friday 4th April 

Join Lichfield Council for the launch of the Northern Territory’s FIRST EVER Augmented Reality Pop-Up Park! It will be at Howard Park Oval on Friday, 4th April from 4:30 to 7:30pm. This FREE event is your chance to experience the future of outdoor play! Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind adventure—bring your family, invite your friends, and get ready to step into a magical new world!

Imagine this: You walk into your local park and suddenly… dinosaurs roar in the distance, fairies twirl through the air, and robots zip around your feet! One minute, you’re dodging a raptor, the next, you’re saving the ocean from an evil mermaid or buzzing around as a honeybee collecting pollen! The AR park is open anytime Howard Reserve is- so come whenever and play all the games until April 18, 2025.

SWELL Pool Party -Friday 4th April
Head to Swell in Palmerston on Friday 4th from 5pm to 9pm to Celebrate NT Youth Week. Some of the activities on offer are: 3 v 3 basketball comp, Skateboarding, Virtual reality experience, Water Volleyball and free BBQ. They can’t wait to celebrate our youth and connect through expression and engagement.
Feel Good Factory – Hip Hop and Breakdance sessions – Saturday 5th April

Ever wanted to learn hip-hop dance? Kick off the April school holidays with a high-energy street dance workshop led by B-Girl Nat and B-Boy Ricky! Learn to groove, pop, lock and break it down—getting you freestyling in no time. All skill levels welcome—plus snacks are provided! Workshops by donation. Available in Palmerston in two sessions for 7-10yrs and 11-17yrs. Bookings required and places limited. Book here

NT youth week
Recording Studio Sessions and open day pizza party – Monday 7th – Friday 11 April

City of Palmerston library is running recording sessions in the Gulwa Recording Studio. Bookings are essential! This program will be in partnership with local music producer/audio engineer, Danny Christie, Who is a Mix with the Masters graduate having worked alongside Tchad Blake Grammy-winning engineers and has over 20 years of working in the music industry across Europe and Australia.

The purpose of this youth week activity is to provide safe and secure education/entertainment opportunities during NT Youth Week 2025, provide youth-friendly engagement, and involve young people at all levels. The program aims to encourage the development of skills and attributes such as self-esteem, cooperation and trust for young people in a safe environment. This is your chance to bring your creative ideas to life in a professional environment for FREE!

Jimmy Bamble
Painting with B4amble – Thursday 10th April
Litchfield Council are excited to have Jimmy Bamble lead this creative experience at Livingstone Recreation Reserve, it’s a great opportunity for youth aged 8-21 years to explore self-expression through art while chatting about wellbeing and important youth topics. Free event but bookings essential here
Free Animal Farm – Thursday 10th April
Head to  Coolalinga Central for a FREE Animal Farm. Pat and play with the CUTEST farm animals from 10.00am to 1.00pm on Thursday 10 April! No bookings required.

Gaming After Dark – Friday April 11th 

Gaming After Dark is a FREE event and safe, action-packed and inclusive place for young people aged 12-17 to hang out with friends, play casual setups and compete in low stakes esports competitions. Held 6.30pm-8.30pm at Casuarina Library, snacks provided. The Amazing XR VR will also be joining this session.
K Pop Festival – Saturday 12th April
The NT’s K-POP Festival is back and even bigger this year, now combined with the Korea Festival!
Join in for an unforgettable day filled with K-pop energy, a Korean food stall, and cultural experiences at Malak Harmony Hall – 44 Patterson St, Malak on Saturday 12th April from 2pm onwards. More info and you can regiser for the K Pop dances here
City of Palmerston Library
Head into the Palmerston library for some School holiday fun. All sessions are free and suitable for ages 5-12 years. Holiday program will be running from 7th April to 11th April, 10:00am – 12:00pm at City of Palmerston Library. There is a variety of activities daily from Easter Sand Art, Rabbit Movies, Easter crafts and more . Check out all the details here
City of Darwin Libraries and Fun in the Parks
The City of Darwin Libraries have a many regular programs running like family story time, rhyme time, board games, lego club and STEAM zone happening. Plus many extra activities like reptile encounters and more. The fun in the parks program also is aimed at children aged 5 to 12 years including activities like monster necklaces with air dry clay, worry dolls and more! Check out all the program details here
Taminmin Community Library
Taminmin Community Library located on Challoner Circuit in Humpty Doo have a variety of activities for the kids to keep busy these school holidays. From Hyper Magic show, VR with level up gaming, candle making and more! Some booking required. Check out their Facebook page here for all the details.

leanyer recreation park

Leanyer Recreation Park

Another great option to keep the kids busy and cool these Darwin December and January School holidays is to visit Leanyer Recreation park. It is a FREE water recreation park located at 215 Vanderlin Drive Leanyer. The Park consists of dry and wet recreational areas. The wet area includes a swimming lagoon (shallow in many areas – great for toddlers and young children), three massive water slides for the older kids.  There are large, grassed areas for play, BBQ’s, a dry playground, skate park and basketball courts. The Park has lots of shaded areas including over the pool, the wet play area, the skate park and the grassed areas. There are toilets and change room facilities.

Office of Youth Affairs

The Office of Youth affairs compile calendars including programs and activities during school holidays for young people (most aged 12-25yrs) Plus they organise NT Youth Week in april. Check out their calendars here

Playshack Palmerston

Why not head into the Playshack located in the Hub complex Palmerston (Shop 7, 3 Maluka Drive). Let the kids run and burn their energy on the massive indoor playground and you can enjoy a coffee or drink and a snacks available for purchase. Their hours during school holidays will be 8.30 am till 2 pm Monday – Friday, plus the usual weekend times of Saturday 9 am till 2pm and Sunday 10 am till 4 pm. Entry is only $9.90 per child and bubs under 1 are free with an older sibling (or $3). Please remember your socks!

Palmerston Water Park

Palmerston Water Park is the second water park in Darwin. It also FREE and open seven days a week. Please note the Waterslides are currently closed for maitenance but the rest of the water park is open. Located at Cnr University Ave and Roystonea Ave (access via Roystonea Ave). The water park includes a 14 metre high – 100 metre long – six-line racer water slide, a wet play area for families and toddlers featuring sprays, water curtains and a shallow wading pool. Another wet play area for teenagers featuring more active water cannons, buckets and high intensity interactive play, a café, toilets and change room facilities, open grassed play area with BBQs, shaded areas and a skate park.

The SHAK Youth Hub – at Sanderson Middle School

A drop in youth space for all young people with no registration required, a variety of activities, food and transportation home provided. Food and transport home provided. From 12pm most days of the school holidays till late. For 10-17yr olds. Sanderson Middle School is located at 60 Matthews Road Malak. View more details here

Good Friday this year falls on 18th April (most shops and places are closed this day), till Easter Monday on 21st (both are public holidays).

Start the weekend at this FREE Easter eggstravaganza! The Easter Bunny has a basket of chocolates just for you! Solve the clues and collect stamps from each hunt stop, to receive it.

There will be TWO Easter Egg Hunt sessions this year, with plenty of entertainment in-between…

Annual Easter Fest Markets – Saturday 19th April

The Kalymnian Broherhood Darwin is hosing its annual Easter Fest with Indoor markets at 46 Batten Road Marrara from 10am to 6pm. Join them for a family fun day with lots of activities for the kids and heaps of entertainment, great food and sweets plus shopping for Easter and gifts.

Easter Egg Hunt – Saturday 19th April

Head to Cullen Bay lawns from 4pm for an Easter Egg Hunt, fun games, food and music until 6pm. They will also have the rather splendid Easter Egg chair all day Sunday as well, so plenty of photo opportunities.

Easter Egg Hunt and Facepaiting – Wednesday 9th April

Happening in Smith Street Mall during the school holidays on Wednesday 9th April from 10am to 12pm. Get ready for an egg-citing Easter egg hunt, where kids can search for hidden treasures! After the hunt, stop by the face painting station, where a talented artist will transform little faces into bunnies, butterflies, and more.
