Are you ready for our Dry Season – Darwin June July School holidays 2025? We have three weeks in total! (for Darwin public schools, private and independent school holidays may be slightly different – please check with your school). Holidays start Saturday 21st June and students will return to school for Term 3 2025 on Tuesday 15th July (public schools).
Darwin Family Life has rounded up some of the fantastic options that are free (or affordable) activities to do with your kids these June July School holidays.

Top End Multi Sports – School holidays program
TEMS have their popular sports holiday program back for the June July holidays break. For the best holiday fun, book your kids into their holiday program where they have a variety of sports and activities to keep your kids entertained! Whether your kid is a beginner or expert player, their school holiday program provides for all levels of ability. They can expect lots of fun, learn a skill and much more.
Program consists of: Soccer, tennis, volleyball, swimming, dodgeball, movie time and more. Daily activities have flexibility to suit children. For ages 5+ 8am to 4pm (half days and earlier starts available on request)

ET at Deckchair Cinema – 2nd July
LAUNCH Darwin have teamed up with the crew at the stunning Deckchair Cinema for another epic school holiday dry season evening, this time for a nostalgic journey to the 80s! FREE for ages 12-25 (ID required) To book your free ticket here **Those outside the 12-25 age bracket are welcome to attend, however will need to purchase a ticket. Kids Choice Pool Party – 3rd July
Bring down your favourite inflatables and request your favourite song at the DJ booth at this request-a-thon! Dance to party tunes chosen by you, catch a wave, get glitter face paint and more! CLUB CORRO-AOKE – 3rd and 4th July
Ever wanted to tap into your inner rock star or try karaoke in the most inclusive club in Darwin? Then this FREE workshop is for you! Palmerston Youth Festival – Paint Workshop – 10th July
Join in at the Palmerston Recreation Centre for a fun and interactive paint workshop as part of the Palmerston Youth Festival’s Creative Collective. Palmerston Youth Festival – Game Development Workshop – 10th July
Join Dylan Bennett; game designer, studio lead at Larrikin Interactive and CEO of The Array for a practical introduction to the world of game development. This beginner-friendly session will unpack the fundamentals of game design in a clear and engaging way. Whether you’re interested in storytelling, prototyping, character creation or simply curious about how games are made; this workshop is for you. If there’s a particular topic you’d like covered, such as game engines, narrative design or building your first prototype; let us know and we’ll try to tailor the session to your interests. Level Up – Café Skills – 7th July
Interested in getting a job but don’t know where to start? Join the Institute of Skills and Training Australia for a fun interactive workshop covering the basics of café work and customer service.This FREE workshop is being held at a proper city café! We’ll have it to ourselves though so no customers getting in the way of you whipping up delicious toasties, smoothies and milkshakes. FREEZE Skate – 9th July

Children’s Program | MAGNT After Dark – Megafauna of Australia – 24th June
Join the MAGNT Education team for an excursion in the museum after dark. Search the Natural Science gallery for Megafauna fossils and bones in the Transformations exhibition, then unearth new skills as you undertake activities in the Discovery Centre. Discuss future digs with fellow palaeontologists over dinner then watch a documentary in the Theatrette.

Children’s Field Trip | Bird Watching at Holmes Jungle Nature Park – 1st July
Celebrate Territory Day with the MAGNT Education team and explore the different habitats at Holmes Jungle Nature Park. Search for Spangled Drongos, Rainbow Pittas and tiny Red-backed Fairy-wrens as we explore the Jungle and Woodland walks. Bring your binoculars or borrow a pair from MAGNT.
Experiment with making dyes and paints from nature and explore the intersection where art meets science. Compare colours made from spices with colours made from leaves and petals, then create an artwork inspired by the Dry Season of the Northern Territory.

Low Sensory Sessions – 4th July
On the first Friday of every month, the doors of MAGNT open early to offer a dedicated low sensory session. Visitors will have the opportunity to experience all the exhibitions at their own pace and with reduced sensory stimuli, such as sound and lighting. The newly refurbished Cyclone Tracy exhibit, including the sound booth, will have all sound turned off. Friday 4th of July – 9am to 10am.

Explore the wonders of MAGNT’s Natural History and living worlds, silent disco style! Put on a headset filled with funky tunes and sashay your way through the museum’s collection of bugs, birds and beasts. This interactive tour will see you boogie your way through the NT’s landscapes and learn how important our beautiful and diverse flora and fauna are along the way.

Explore the fauna and flora of the George Brown Botanical Gardens with the MAGNT Education Team. Conduct biodiversity surveys in different parts of the garden, look for Rufous Owls and other birds in the rainforests and search for reptiles and mammals in the undergrowth.

Meander through the grounds of MAGNT with other budding botanists and explore the flora encountered along the way. Collect samples of different leaves then experiment with leaf

Join the MAGNT Education team to explore the mangrove forest boardwalk at East Point. Learn about the special adaptations mangroves have for living between the tides. Meet the amazing
molluscs that are spending the whole Dry season perched high above the water. See Mudskippers, Fiddler Crabs and Longbums, and be on the lookout for stingrays and snakes.

Sunday Funday | STEAM Building Skills – Cardboard Construction – 13th July
Step inside the Discovery Centre and develop new skills through a series of fun activities that give children a chance to explore science, technology, engineering, art and maths at MAGNT. Run by STEAM Lead Educator, Caitlin Conway, this drop-in session is perfect for children with curious and creative minds who want to build a bird, a hat, a costume, a car…. anything out of cardboard! Playshack Palmerston
Why not head into the Playshack located in the Hub complex Palmerston (Shop 7, 3 Maluka Drive). Let the kids run and burn their energy on the massive indoor playground and you can enjoy a coffee or drink and a snacks available for purchase. Their hours during school holidays will be 8.30 am till 4 pm Monday – Friday, plus the usual weekend times of Saturday 9 am till 2pm and Sunday 10 am till 3 pm. Weekday entry is only $11.90 per child (5-12), toddlers are $9.90 and bubs under 1 are free with an older sibling (or $3). Weekend entry is $11.90 (ages 1-12). Please remember your socks!
Palmerston Water Park
Palmerston Water Park is the second water park in Darwin. It also FREE and open seven days a week. Located at Cnr University Ave and Roystonea Ave (access via Roystonea Ave). The water park includes a 14 metre high – 100 metre long – six-line racer water slide, a wet play area for families and toddlers featuring sprays, water curtains and a shallow wading pool. Another wet play area for teenagers featuring more active water cannons, buckets and high intensity interactive play, a café, toilets and change room facilities, open grassed play area with BBQs, shaded areas and a skate park.
The SHAK Youth Hub – at Sanderson Middle School
A drop in youth space for all young people with no registration required, a variety of activities, food and transportation home provided. Food and transport home provided. From 12pm most days of the school holidays till late. For 10-17yr olds. Sanderson Middle School is located at 60 Matthews Road Malak. View more details here
