Darwin June July School holidays 2022 break is fast approaching! School holidays will start on Monday 27th June (for Darwin public schools) to Monday 18th July (Private and Independent school holidays may be slightly different – please check with your school).  Students will return to school for Term 3 on 19th of July.

TEMS school holidays July

Top End Multi Sports – Monday 4th to Friday 15th July

TEMS have their popular sports holiday program back for the July holidays break. For the best holiday fun, book your kids into their holiday program where they have a variety of sports and activities to keep your kids entertained!

Program consists of: Soccer, tennis, volleyball, pool time and more. Daily activities have flexibility to suit children. For ages 5+ $75 per day or $300 for 5 days (last day is free!) available 2nd and 3rd week of holidays. Enrolments are now open and filling up fast! For more information and to enrol, click here.

Gaming After Dark – Friday 24th June

Hang out and play casual setups, compete in small Esports competitions, socialise and be around friendly like-minded people! FREE event, For ages 12-17 at Casuarina Library, 6:30pm to 8:30pm.

PRIDE youth day – Friday 24th June

A FREE event run by Youth for Youth. Dj Cyril, featuring live performances by Darwin Performance Academy and Darwin Skate School. Corrugated Iron crafts, Festival Stalls with Decorations by Territory Nights! PLUS our special festival guest “The Fabulous Wonder Mama”. Kicking off from 3pm to 7pm at The Quarter Casuarina.

Rainbow family fun day – Saturday 25th June

Join Top End Pride celebrating Pride month with their RAINBOW FAMILY DAY at Civic Park in Smith Street Mall, Darwin City. FREE fun day for the whole family from 10am to 4pm. Pride Pooches, stalls and entertainment! At Browns Mart there will be a selection of forums discussing important current issues. March in the Parade and enjoy the day!

Family Fun Day – Saturday 25th June

Join Lauren Moss and Nicole Manison for their annual Family Fun Day. This is a free family event for residents of the Casuarina and Wanguri electorates. There will be activities galore including face painting, jumping castles and a free BBQ and coffee. Plus there will be will Hoops 4 Health, Casuarina Football Club and Casuarina Cougars Rugby Club and more! From 10am to 12 noon at Garamanak Park Lyons.

Kindness Festival – Saturday 25th June

The Kindness Festival is back for the second year with another free, inclusive and creative event designed for everyone in the NT who wants to learn and embrace diversity and the importance of international students and multicultural communities in Australia. Join in to celebrate the Northern Territory as a melting pot of cultural diversity. We have prepared a day full of activities & showcases, cultural performances, family-friendly activities, international food stalls and a few more surprises. By international students. For EVERYONE! Held at the Darwin Waterfront from 4pm.

Activities at the Palmerston Youth Centre (PYC) from Saturday 25th June

Daily fun activities at the PYC (11 Palmerston Circuit). Food will be provided. Transportation will be provided by Larrakia Nation. From 10am to 10pm for ages 10-17 years.

Geek Up – Dungeons & Dragons – Sunday 26th June

Meet, connect, and play D&D with other young people at Geek Up! Held at Casuarina Library (17 Bradshaw Terrace), from 1pm to 4pm on Sunday. Join our experienced dungeon master in a one-shot game. Snacks provided. FREE event, for ages 15-25.

Sanderson Annual Family Fun Day – Sunday 26th June

It on again! An afternoon of great family fun in Anula park. Please bring your family and friends to our free annual community event. 3 hours of entertainment including face painters, petting zoo, fire show and jumping castle. From 3pm to 6pm at Anula Park (off Yanyula Drive, Anula).

YMCA Activities – From Monday 27th  June

There will be a range of activities at the Y; including Amazing Race Kick Off Round 1, Baking, Tie Dying, Lifesize Board games, Puzzles, 2 on 2 Minute 2 Win It.  From 11am to 3pm at The Yspace Up Top in Palmerston (11 Palmerston Circuit, Palmerston). Food will be provided.  YMCA activities runs school holidays Mondays to Fridays. (Friday an excursion)

Early Birds @ McMinns Lagoon – from Monday 27th June

Join Taminmin library staff and Bush to Beach at McMinns Lagoon for a lovely walk around one of Litchfield’s prettiest lagoons. You will spot and identify local birds with binoculars, play bird bingo, and learn all about beaks. Binoculars supplied. Don’t forget to bring your hat, water and comfortable shoes! Every Monday during school holidays (27/6, 4/7 and 11/7) for ages 6+. Bookings required. Contact Taminmin library on 8988 1200.

Kids cooking classes

Darwin Adult Short courses are hosting kids cooking classes in the June July holidays. $15 per child per session. From 10:30am to 12:30pm. Book via their website here

Swim Dynamics – Swimming intensives – Monday 27th June to Friday 15th July

Classes are held on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays in a week period at Nightcliff Pool (259 Casuarina Dr). Students are encouraged to register for all 3 weeks but can also enrol for 1 or 2 of the weeks only. Preference will go to students completing the full 3 weeks. Group classes are $165 – Full program, 3 weeks ($55 per week) or $65 per week if not doing full program. For more information and to book head here

Darwin Scooter workshops and competition

Launch Darwin has partnered with Freestyle Scooter Riding Association and Surf Life Saving NT to bring the community of scooter riders some great workshops and events these school holidays. All activities will be held at the Leanyer Skate Park, 305 Vanderlin Drive. For more information and to book a free session click here

Tip Top Circus fun – Wednesday 29th June

We know the circus has been to town, but why not take a shot at BEING the performer! Join Tip Top Circus at Berry Springs Recreation Reserve from 10.30am on Wednesday 29th June, for an interactive circus workshop with our very own circus from the top end, Tip Top Circus! This morning of fun will offer balloons, bubbles and a circus workshop. And it’s FREE!

Youth Trax Skateboarding and Mural Art Workshops – Wed 29th and Thurs 30th June

Skateboarding Workshops, Mural Art Workshops and free BBQ Food will be provided from 10am to 2pm. Transport Available. For ages 10-17 at Leanyer Skate Park (305 Vanderlin Drive.)

Dinomania @ the Library – every Friday during holidays starting 1st July

Who loves dinosaurs? Well, we sure do! That’s why each Friday in the holidays library staff are bringing super duper dinosaur fun all around Litchfield. In the first week, we will start at our favourite place, Taminmin Community Library (70 Challoner Cct Humpty Doo)! Then we will T-Rex stomp our way to Berry Springs Recreation Reserve in the second week. Then we will spread our Pterodactyl wings and fly on over to Howard Park in the third week. Phew, is that enough dinosaur action for you? NO, IT’S NOT! Each week we will be reading dinosaur stories, dinosaur yoga and dinosaur play. Join in the Dino fun from 10.30am each Friday, suitable for all ages.

Casuarina Pool Party – Friday 1st July and Saturday 16th July

FREE Family fun pool party and music. Food will be provided from 3pm to 6pm at Casuarina Swimming Pool.

KIDvention – Saturday 2nd July

KIDvention is a annual free event. The day is all about the children and families of our awesome Palmerston community. KIDvention will have a range of community stalls including food, retail, educational and support service groups. The day will be packed with entertainment, performances and demonstrations for the whole family to enjoy. Join in the fun from 9am to 1pm at Goyder Square Palmerston.

Flinics – Saturday 2nd July and 16th July

Enjoy a free movie night in Palmerston with the outdoor movie program, movies start at 7pm.Bring along a picnic, blanket or even a bean bag and settle in for a night under the stars.

Hyper the Clown – Holiday Disco – Tuesday 5th July

Come and party with Hyper the Clown at the hall at the Humpty Doo Village Green Hall (85 Challoner Cct, Humpty Doo) with lights, bubbles, dancing and, of course, fun! Disco fun starts at 10:30am for all ages!

Teddy Bears Picnic – Wednesday 6th July

Join in the Teddy Bears Picnic fun at the Humpty Doo Village green (85 Challoner Cct, Humpty Doo) from 10:30am. Bring your hat, water bottle and a picnic blanket and some yummy morning tea for yourself. Taminmin Library will provide some fruit to share. And of course, BYOB! (Bring your own bear).

Nightcliff Pool Party – Sunday 10th July

FREE Family fun pool party and music. Food will be provided, from 3pm to 6pm at Nightcliff pool.

Storytelling for Impact – Wednesday 29th June and Friday 8th July

Launch Darwin have partnered up with Darwin Community Arts to hold a TWO FREE workshops series for young people who want to build their media skills. For ages 15-25.

Join local media superstar Lisa Pellegrino for a workshop exploring content creation and interviewing for video. Session One will be held on Wednesday 29 June, 4:30 to 7:00pm at UNTiTLED Gallery + Studio,  3/1 Caryota Court Coconut Grove

Join local media superstar Rick Knight for a workshop exploring video production skills and interviewing skills. Session two will be held on Friday 8 July, 4:30 to 7:00pm at UNTiTLED Gallery + Studio,  3/1 Caryota Court Coconut Grove.

Community Fun Day – Tuesday 12th July

Clubhouse Territory’s community FREE fun day, all-abilities come and try is on again at Darwin Waterfront. Don’t miss out on an all-inclusive free family day full of various sports to try and activities! For more information and to register for their event today here

Go Nights! Friday Nights – various dates

Girls only drop in space – from 4pm to 8pm. Free workshops, dinner and bus home. Free entry for females only ages 10-17 at Malak Community Centre (13 Malak Cres). Go Nights are hosted by Two Two One Mental health charity.

The Shak holiday program – various dates

Youth activities and food will be provided. For kids aged 10-17, held at Sanderson Middle school from 12 to 6pm or sometimes till 8pm. Larrakia can drop off  home after 5pm. Runs from Friday 24th June, every day of the week (except Sundays). Free event and no registrations required.

Mr Snotbottom – Kids Comedy Show part of the Darwin Fringe Festival

Hilariously deeeesgsusting comedian for kids Mr Snotbottom is performing at Brown’s Mart Theatre July 14-16th for the school holidays and Darwin Fringe. Brimming will all the oooey, gooey, yucky, slimy topics kids love, this roller-coaster ride of revoltingness is perfect for weird kids 5 and up and their even weirder parents! Grab your tickets here

Hoops 4 Health Academy – on Tuesdays

A free culturally safe basketball program building skills and resilience whilst having fun. Food will be provided. Aimed at ages 10-17, held from 4pm at Holy Family Primary School each Tuesday of the school holidays.

Northern Suburbs 3×3 Basketball – Tuesdays and Thursdays

All things streetball hitting the courts in the suburbs. 3×3 basketball, games, activities and prizes. Great sounds, great feed, great fun. Food will be provided. Larrakia Drop offs will be available after 5pm. For kids aged 10-17, from 5pm to 9pm at Chrisp Street Rapid Creek Basketball Courts. Held on Thursday 30th June, Tuesday 5th, Thursday 7th,  Tuesday 12th and Thursday 14th July.

Cas Youth Space – Wednesdays and Thursdays

Two Two One is running a safe youth drop space for all young people to attend and enjoy. This program will involve FREE activities, movies, games and dinner, from 1pm to 5.30pm at Casuarina Square Food court. Food will be provided. Aimed at 10-17yr olds.

Palmerston Youth Festival – 10th July to 16th July

A FREE week long program jam packed with events for everyone, from all ages music concerts, sports, arts jam, GEEK fest, and so much more check out the full program of events here.

Geekfest Top End – Friday 15th July and Saturday 16th July

This year Geekfest Top End (GFTE) will be the closing event for the Palmerston Youth Festival. GFTE is set to grow in 2022 being held over 2 days the 15 and 16 July, starting from 2pm to 7pm on Friday and 5pm to 10pm on Saturday. The fifth instalment of Palmerston’s unique all-ages event. GFTE is Northern Territory’s largest and longest-running Geek Convention. It will take over the Palmerston CBD including, the City of Palmerston Library, Recreation Centre and Goyder Square. A range of free activities including everything from Cosplay and Esports Competition, Virtual Reality, PC Play, Console and Video Game Testing Station, Tabletop Gaming, Anime, Medieval Land, Demonstrations, Laser Tag, Artist Alley/Collectors Fair, Kids Zone and so much more. Leanyer Recreation Park

Another great option to keep the kids busy and cool these Darwin June July School holidays 2022 is to visit Leanyer Recreation park. It is a FREE water recreation park located at 215 Vanderlin Drive Leanyer. The Park consists of dry and wet recreational areas. The wet area includes a swimming lagoon (shallow in many areas – great for toddlers and young children), three massive water slides for the older kids. PLEASE NOTE THE WET PLAYGROUND IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONTRUCTION UPGRADES. There are large grassed areas for play, BBQ’s, a dry playground, skate park and basketball courts. The Park has lots of shaded areas including over the pool, the wet play area, the skate park and the grassed areas. There are toilets and change room facilities. 

Opening hours during the school holidays are:
9am to 8pm – grassed area and BBQ’s
10am to 6pm – wet play area
11am to 6pm – water slides

Palmerston Water Park

Palmerston Water Park is the second water park in Darwin. It also FREE and open seven days a week. Located at Cnr University Ave and Roystonea Ave (access via Roystonea Ave). The water park includes a 14 metre high – 100 metre long – six-line racer water slide, a wet play area for families and toddlers featuring sprays, water curtains and a shallow wading pool. Another wet play area for teenagers featuring more active water cannons, buckets and high intensity interactive play, a café, toilets and change room facilities, open grassed play area with BBQs, shaded areas and a skate park.
Opening hours during the school holidays are:
9am to 6pm – grassed area and BBQ’s
10am to 6pm – wet play area
11am to 6pm – water slide

Playshack Palmerston

Why not head into the Playshack located in the Hub complex Palmerston (Shop 7, 3 Maluka Drive). Let the kids run and burn their energy and you can enjoy a coffee or drink and a snacks available for purchase. The Playshack have extended during school holidays. Their hours will be 8.30 am till 4 pm Monday – Friday, plus the usual weekend times of Saturday 9 am till 2pm and Sunday 10 am till 4 pm. Entry is only $9.90 per child during the week and bubs under 1 are free. Please remember your socks!

Darwin Ice Skating Centre – special offers!

Our friends at Darwin Ice Skating Centre have some great special offers always on for families! You can skate 1 Parent & 1 Child (5yrs and under) for just $24. Or a family pass of  2 Adults & 2 Children (between 6 Years & 14 Years) is $60.00.

If you buy a pre-paid pass for 10 sessions and receive a 20% discount off the total price. They also have loyalty cards where after 10 skating sessions, you’ll be able to skate for free on the 11th visit.

Museum and Art Gallery Northern Territory (MAGNT)

The Museum and Art Gallery NT (located at 19 Conacher St) is another great place to take the kids and keep them entertained for a few hours in air conditioning! My kids love visiting the turtles next to the main entrance and there is always interesting new exhibitions and the same old favourites.  Entry to the MAGNT is free and they are open Tuesday to Saturday 10am till 4pm and Sundays open 10am till 5pm. Closed Good Friday.

At the moment there is new exhibition called Walking through a Songline.

Follow in the steps of the Seven Sisters and experience the immersive nature of a songline in this multi-sensory digital installation. Songlines, or Dreaming tracks, map the routes of Ancestral beings as they travelled across Australia, creating the land and its people.
