Things to do around Darwin with your family this New Years Eve

New Year 2018

Sharing is caring!

With Christmas now done and dusted it is a couple of lazy days in between and we start to look at New Years Eve and what we plan to do. Depending on your family and whether you like a crowd or a quiet celebration we have a couple of ideas here to suit every family. Check out what is happening around Darwin suitable for your family.

For my young family the last couple of years on New Years we have kept things on the quieter side of celebrating. I have either been pregnant or breastfeeding for many of the last few years so the possibilities of a big celebration have disappeared. We tend to enjoy getting some glow stick packs (Kmart have a great variety at a great price!) we let the kids enjoy these after dusk and then we watch some of the fireworks on the TV. The family fireworks in Sydney on the TV kick off at 9pm (their time) so 7.30pm here. Then Mum and Dad can enjoy a beverage or two after the kiddies are tucked up in bed.

Or if you fancy to see what is on about town we have rounded up some of the family friendly events happening.

Darwin Waterfront – New Years Eve Celebrations

The Waterfront always put on a huge event and line up and this year is no different. The FREE family fun kicks off from 5pm with two shows from the Nick Jr.’s PAW Patrol ‘Ready for Action’ shows. There will also be balloon twisting, face glittering and lots of other fun entertainers to keep the little ones happy. Pack a picnic or enjoy a bite to eat from many of the food stalls. Eskies are welcome, but no glass or alcohol is permitted.

The New Year’s Eve fireworks at the Waterfront will have two shows. One at 9pm for the younger crowd and one at midnight. The music tunes will be pumping from local artists Josh Wyatt and Max Fredricks. DJ due Hello Bass and Von Lit who will MC and keep everyone entertained.

The music will continue after 9.30pm with the Choirboys’ Mark Gable, Taxi Ride’s Jason Singh and Australian singer-songwriter Dean Ray. Singer-songwriter Craig Phillips will bring in the New Year with some country rock covers and classic alternatives.
