Darwin get ready! Territory Day 2018 is about to go off with a bang! Territory Day is celebrated every year on the 1st of July. This year is extra special as we mark 40 years since the Northern Territory was granted self-government. This significant event in our history will be celebrated across the Territory.  Darwin Family Life has rounded up some of the fantastic free events for you to go to with your family this Territory Day 2018 and where you can see some awesome fireworks!

Fusion BLAST 2018 – Public display night Darwin Waterfront – Friday 29th June

From 7.30pm to 9pm head down to Darwin Waterfront for a family friendly preview night. Fusion Fireworks will host its ‘Blast’ preview night. The event will provide Territorians with a preview of products on offer for Territory Day. There will be live music, DJ, giveaways, food and fun for whole family.

The Artful Room – Territory Day Children’s Art Exhibition – 1st till 14th July

The Artful room have been holding workshops with Territory children for the last few weeks and have produced some amazing art works that represent what they love about living in the Territory. The exhibition will be open from 11 am on the 1st of July. There will be over 50 canvas art works on display and a patchwork of drawings with over 100 contributors. Visitors to the exhibition also have the opportunity to add a drawing to the patchwork of their favourite thing about the Territory. FREE entry to the exhibition.

The Artful room is open:

Tuesday 11 am till 5:30 pm,

Wednesday 11 till 5:30 pm and then 7 pm to 9 pm,

Thursday’s 11 am to 5 pm,

Saturday’s 9:30 am till 4 pm

Closed Mondays, Sunday’s and Fridays

Palmerston’s Live in the Square and Territory Day fireworks

Kicking off from 5pm till 8pm – head down to Goyder Square in Palmerston for some awesome family fun. Kick back with a picnic on the lawn and listen to some tunes by Wicked Smile, Angie Sublime & Kenny Bhoy, two long time Territorians performing a variety of popular music from country, pop, blues, rock, disco and jazz.

The Palmerston fireworks display will kick off from 7.30pm. Please note no personal fireworks are permitted. This is a FREE event.

Territory Day 2018 Celebrations at the Darwin Waterfront

Free festivities will commence at the Darwin Waterfront from 5pm with some great local Territory talent.

The line-up of musical artists will include  Jordan Ravi, Will Hatch and Max Fredericks along with appearances by DJ and MC Daniel Aitken. The crew from Yenz Entertainment will be there spreading sparkly magical fun with lots of glitter and balloon twisters for the families to enjoy.

Lots of food options from restaurants and cafes in the Wharf precinct or pack your own picnic and enjoy a fabulous night of entertainment under the stars. Be advised to get in early for a good spot on the lawns and car parking as it will get quiet busy. You can take along your esky but no glass or alcohol is permitted.

Personal fireworks will be restricted in this area.


 

Territory Day Starbeque at Sky City

For a gourmet all you can eat BBQ buffet on their beachside lawns with a fabulous view of fireworks display head to Sky city. Bookings and prepayment essential. Head here for more information and to book

Territory Day 2018 at Mindil Beach

Definitely a huge show planned for the 40 year celebrations of Territory Independence at Mindil Beach this year. The Iconic Neil Finn from Crowed House will be leading the show line up, along with a lot of local talent including the Baker Boy, Stevie Jean and Rachel Rachel. Mindil Beach opens from 4pm.

The main fireworks show will kick off at 8pm, there will be road closures in place keep tune to the Facebook page for updates. Free public transport is available to this event and public car parking is available. No personal fireworks are permitted. Our friends from Fairy Jill Enchanted Entertainment will also be there with some sparkly glitter fun!

ARSS Club at Adelaide River

For anyone out rural areas the Coomalie Community Government Council has organised fireworks and also Hyper the Clown from 4 pm to 6 pm at the ARSS Club in Adelaide River.

Territory Day 2018 at Batchelor Oval

Another event for our rural members, kicking off from 4 pm to 6 pm also organised by the Coomalie Community Government Council there will be a live band and fireworks for the whole family to enjoy.

Acacia Hills Volunteer Bushfire Brigade – Territory Proud

The HQ is open and they are having a family fun day celebrating our 40th anniversary of Territory Day! Kicking off from 5 pm till 10pm.

Activities for families including fire safety demonstrations, history display, fun photo opportunities, BBQ available for purchase and much more! Plus you can bring your own small fireworks!

Acacia Hills Volunteer Bushfire Brigade is located at 330 Whitstone Road, Acacia Hills.

MUFF 2018 – Mandorah Ukulele Folk Festival

One of Australia’s remotest and most fun Ukulele festivals, two days of Ukuleles and folk music and it is right near us in Darwin at Wagait Beach (Mandorah!). Our friends at the Burning Circus will be there to provide lots of fun for all the kids. There will also be cultural workshops, market stalls and food kiosks.

On the beautiful Wagait Beach the festival is held underneath the Banyan trees. There will be performances from Ali Mills, AJ Leonard, Dave Garnham, Stevie Jean, Jigsaw Collective and more!

A return shuttle bus option will be available from the Mandorah Jetty to the festival site.

For any families with little ones who need some ear protection – our friends at Little Rompers are also selling the Baby banz ear muffs. Get in quick to grab your pair as they sell out fast.
