Saltwater Ceremony

Darwin Waterfront is a place of welcome and we invite the locals and visitors to Join Larrakia Elder, Richard Fejo for a Saltwater Ceremony to welcome you to Darwin Waterfront.

Richard is a saltwater man born and raised in Darwin. His Dad’s family are Larrakia and his Mum comes from Warramungu country, near Tennant Creek.

Richard will explain what a Saltwater ceremony is, its importance to the Larrakia people and provide a welcome. The ceremony will take place at the edge of Recreation Lagoon, where he will invite you to enter the water. Richard will perform the ceremony by mingling the sweat from our bodies with saltwater, connecting us with the elders so they may recognise and protect us on Larrakia land.
