Are you travelling interstate, prepping for the next outbreak or looking for a handmade pressie for a loved one on the East coast?

Our first workshop for the Waste to Art series is with Lou De Mattia. Lou and her sister Gaby launched Sister Buffalo, a second-hand fashion shop in Nightcliff. The shop sells pre-loved and up-cycled clothing as well as doing custom mending and alterations.

Currently around the word three million disposable face masks are being discarded every minute. That is a big pile in landfill and some of the plastic in disposable masks can take up to 450 years to break down. The elastic straps can also be dangerous to wildlife if not cut before they are disposed off. *ABC news article

Join Lou to make your own re-usable mask out of your favourite pre-loved or off-cut fabric. Get creative with your design and decorations if you want to put a smile on peoples’ faces. Beginner sewers are very welcome. You will go away with your own mask and the know how to make more.

The Waste to Art program is proudly presented by Environment Centre NT and Intermingle, DCA. The program is supported by the City of Darwin Community grant program.
