Flametree Yoga Studio is located in Woolner, just 4 km from Darwin city centre. The studio was established in 2002 by Chris Lalor. It's now a major Darwin yoga studio, offering Beginner yoga and other classes 7 days a week.

Chris is a highly ranked and certified teacher, holding one of the major yoga teacher certifications in the world. Darwin's Flametree yoga studio is a vibrant yoga centre offering a wide variety of classes to cater to a diverse range of people.

There are 2 fully equipped studios of different sizes offering a 7 day a week timetable and a teacher training programme . The style of yoga taught at Flametree is called Iyengar yoga... one of the major yoga styles in the world. It is practised by both men and women - any age, any body shape and any level of flexibility. The teachers at the studio are passionately committed to teaching yoga and believe in its power to transform us wherever we are at in our lives. All the teachers are long term practitioners, qualified through many years of specialist training to teach Iyengar yoga.

We limit the numbers in all the Beginner courses to ensure individual needs are met.The studio offers a friendly learning environment where students can enter as a complete beginner and progress safely through to being an experienced student with a established home practice . We place great importance in teaching students how to use and adapt their yoga practice to the changing seasons in the 'Top End' so that their yoga practice helps them nourish and energise their bodies, quieten and soothe their minds and restore balance.

Unlike some styles of yoga, Flametree ensures you get into the positions so you can get all the health benefits of yoga, no matter what level of yoga you are at. Simple props, and professional instruction is used to help make sure you get key benefits such as better health, fitness, flexibility, toning, stress reduction, and / or personal growth.

Women's Only Yoga classes

Flametree's Women Only yoga classes have information and practices that every woman will find interesting, unique and powerfully useful. The Women Only series has been a recent innovation by Flametree. These classes have quickly become very popular and topical.

Flametree offers two levels of Women Only classes. The first is a Beginner level class. It runs on a Wednesday afternoon 4.15pm-5.15pm.

The other is a non-beginner mixed level class to suit Transition to Intermediate and above students. It runs on a Tuesday evening from 7.30pm-8.45pm.

In broad terms, the classes cover the same range of material. The main difference is that the postures in the beginner series are simple, preparatory poses that all can do.

In both the beginner and non-beginner classes, quite a lot of restorative yoga poses are used. These are poses where quite a lot of props are used, and the poses are held for a longer time. Such restorative poses are excellent for de-stressing, but they also still steadily build flexibility and strength. (See more about restorative yoga in the section on our site... and there is an Easy Restorative Beginner class on Saturdays at 4pm in Woolner).

Both classes help women find balance in the way they live. Women live very busy lives. They have multiple roles and often the struggle of family and work leads to exhaustion and frustration.

Biologically, women face specific issues; the physiological and hormonal changes that occur monthly, and with age as they progress to and beyond menopause. These bring their own set of unique problems and internal conflicts.
