During the worldwide pandemic Christmas Markets in Germany and all over the world have been cancelled – but here in Darwin the German Community is bringing this beautiful tradition to the tropics for the first time ever.
Bringing a winter Christmas tradition to Darwin in the build-up is no small feat – but thankfully there is one wintery location available in the Top End – the Darwin Ice Skating Centre! Imagine the snow on the ice, Christmas music, the smell of Gluehwein (mulled wine), German Christmas cookies, German arts & craft, ice skating performance, Nikolaus (Santa) appearance and – of course – ice skating! Get ready to book your ticket, dust off your winter boots and beanies and escape to the German Winter Wonderland for a day.
The small community event will be co-hosted by the Darwin Ice Skating Centre on Sunday, 13th December from 9am-7pm.
Tickets are available for ice skating and the Christmas market with family tickets available
Booking is essential and tickets are limited to two hours sessions.
We thankfully acknowledge the support we have received from the Northern Territory Government, Office of Multicultural Affairs, Multicultural Council of The NT Inc, Sitzler, Agentur Events and the Darwin Ice Skating Centre, as well as the amazing volunteer support that members of the German Playgroup are providing.
